In a tragic turn of events, a young Palestinian man, Jamal Abu Al-Ola, was shot and killed by an Israeli soldier outside Nasser Hospital in Gaza. Eyewitnesses, including journalist Mohammad Salama and doctor Al Serr, confirmed the chilling account of events that unfolded on Tuesday.
According to El Helou, a journalist at the scene, Abu Al-Ola had previously been detained by the Israeli military before arriving at the hospital. Despite pleas from his mother to stay inside, Abu Al-Ola felt compelled to leave due to threats he had received. He believed that staying at the hospital would endanger the lives of other civilians.
As captured in Salama's video footage, Abu Al-Ola was seen walking away from the hospital surrounded by a crowd. Sadly, he was brutally shot three times by an Israeli soldier before even leaving the hospital premises. El Helou later obtained footage of Abu Al-Ola's lifeless body, still wearing his white PPE, in a body bag.
This incident is not an isolated one, as dozens of Palestinians have been shot outside the hospital in recent days. The Palestinian health ministry reported that two other civilians were killed within the hospital complex on Tuesday, adding to the alarming death toll.
Medical staff at Nasser Hospital vehemently denied allegations made by the Israeli military that the facility was being used for military operations by Hamas. Instead, doctors have been struggling to treat patients with dwindling medical supplies and food while grappling with the constant threat of violence.
The situation at Nasser Hospital has become increasingly perilous, with reports of a colleague being shot and injured by a sniper while working in the operating room. Additionally, the director of the World Health Organization recently stated that Israeli authorities denied their request to enter the hospital.
As tensions rise, civilians have started to evacuate Nasser Hospital, anticipating an imminent invasion of the complex. However, medical staff and patients who are unable to walk remain inside with few resources to sustain them.
With the constant shelling as a backdrop, El Helou, in a desperate plea, addressed his viewers on Instagram, expressing concerns about the safety of those who leave in search of shelter and highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
The tragic killing of Jamal Abu Al-Ola outside Nasser Hospital serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, with innocent civilians paying the heavy price. The international community watches with growing concern as the quest for peace in the region continues to elude those most affected by the violence.
