Israel's military carried out a "targeted raid" in northern Gaza overnight, signaling its intent to continue ground operations in the coming days. The raid comes amidst discussions at the United Nations General Assembly regarding a proposed resolution for a humanitarian ceasefire.

Video footage released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) showed tanks and armored vehicles, including a bulldozer, advancing on a road near a fence in northern Gaza. The tanks fired artillery, causing visible destruction in the area.

According to IDF spokesperson Peter Lerner, the raid aimed to create better conditions for future ground operations. He stated that the IDF engaged and eliminated terrorists who were planning attacks using anti-tank guided missiles.

Later on Thursday, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, another IDF spokesperson, confirmed that ground incursions would continue in Gaza. These operations seek to neutralize Hamas militants, prepare the groundwork for a potential full-scale invasion, and eliminate explosive devices and reconnaissance posts.

However, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to intensify due to daily airstrikes and the Israeli blockade on life-saving fuel. The power shortages have severely impacted health services, and hundreds of thousands of civilians have been displaced.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah reported that Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of over 6,850 people, including thousands of children, since October 7. The international community is facing mounting pressure to urge Israel to allow much-needed aid into Gaza, with calls for an immediate ceasefire or a "humanitarian pause" in fighting.

The United Nations member states are preparing to vote on a draft resolution proposed by Jordan on behalf of Arab states. The resolution calls for a cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages, and the rejection of forced transfer of the Palestinian civilian population. While General Assembly resolutions hold political weight, they are non-binding.

Both the United States and the European Union have rejected proposals for a ceasefire, instead calling for humanitarian pauses. Israel remains steadfast in its goal to eradicate Hamas, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that the decision on a ground operation would be determined by Israel's War Cabinet.

The Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, criticized the ongoing discussions at the General Assembly, claiming that ceasefire requests were an attempt to hinder Israel's defense against a significant threat.

As the conflict rages on, the Israeli internal security agency, the Shin Bet, declared that it believed it had eliminated numerous senior figures within Hamas' military structure. The IDF and Shin Bet jointly announced the killing of Shadi Barud, the deputy head of Hamas' Intelligence Directorate, and the potential elimination of Hamas rocket commander Hassan Al-Abdullah.

The airstrikes on what Israel refers to as Hamas "terror infrastructure" have resulted in significant destruction across northern Gaza. Satellite imagery from October 21 highlights vast devastation in many neighborhoods, further exacerbating the situation in the densely-populated enclave.

The Gaza health ministry has reported that 12 hospitals have become non-operational due to Israeli airstrikes, and 101 medical personnel have been killed. The ministry accused Israeli forces of deliberately obstructing the entry of essential medical supplies and fuel into Gaza, which has caused the healthcare system to collapse.

Furthermore, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) revealed that at least 24 journalists have lost their lives during the conflict so far. Among the victims, 20 are Palestinian, three are Israeli, and one is a Lebanese journalist.

As the crisis continues to escalate, the international community faces mounting calls to take immediate action and prevent further loss of civilian life in Gaza.
