In the wake of violent riots that erupted across Dublin following a horrifying knife attack on three children and their care assistant, the Irish government has come forward to defend the Garda, the country's police force. Minister for Public Expenditure Pascal Donohoe acknowledged the unprecedented situation faced by the law enforcement agency and praised their exceptional work under tough and demanding circumstances.

The incident occurred outside Gaelscoil Cholaiste Mhuire primary school on Thursday, leaving a five-year-old girl critically injured and her care assistant, a woman in her 30s, in serious but stable condition. A man in his late 40s, who is considered a person of interest, is also in serious but stable condition at a hospital in the Dublin Region.

Minister Donohoe emphasized that while the maintenance of law and order in the city center fell short of expectations, the Garda exhibited commendable dedication and commitment. Their efforts in addressing the riots were commendable, and the government stood by their side as they dealt with the ongoing investigation.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee asserted that those responsible for the knife attack and the ensuing violence would be brought to justice. The Garda continues to conduct inquiries into the incident and has designated the man in the hospital as a person of interest.

The knife attack sent shockwaves through the community and triggered a series of protests, which unfortunately escalated into riots with clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers. The government has now issued a clear warning that such thuggery on the streets of Dublin will not be tolerated.

As the five-year-old victim continues to fight for her life at CHI Temple Street, the country waits with bated breath for updates on her condition. The injured care assistant's well-being in The Mater Hospital remains a matter of concern.

The incident has highlighted the urgent need to address security and safety measures in the city center. The Irish government is expected to strengthen efforts in ensuring the well-being of its citizens while maintaining peace and order in the wake of this horrific event.

Despite the challenges faced by the Garda, Minister Donohoe reiterated the government's confidence in their capabilities to protect the community and bring justice to the victims. The investigation into the knife attack and the violent riots is ongoing, with the hope that those responsible will face the full force of the law.
