In a recent address to the United Nations, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian issued a stern warning to the United States about the potential "uncontrollable consequences" if its backing of Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza continues to escalate. The foreign minister expressed concern over the expansion of the conflict in the region, stating, "If the genocide in Gaza continues, they will not be spared from this fire. It is our home and West Asia is our region."

The conflict in Gaza erupted earlier this month when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli towns, resulting in the deaths of over 1,400 people. In response, Israeli airstrikes have reportedly claimed the lives of more than 6,700 Palestinians, as reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.

For years, Iran has been a staunch ally of Hamas, providing the group with financial support, military training, and weapons. However, it is important to note that Hamas is regarded as a terrorist organization by both the United States and the European Union.

Amidst the hostilities, the issue of hostages has taken center stage. Hamas initially took approximately 200 individuals captive, mostly Israeli civilians. Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian announced that Hamas is ready to release these hostages and called for support in releasing the approximately 6,000 Palestinians currently imprisoned by Israel.

In recent days, the release of four hostages, including two American citizens and two elderly Israeli women, has brought some relief. Amir-Abdollahian portrayed Hamas fighters as part of the Palestinian resistance, asserting their "unalienable right" to self-determination and independence for Gaza, which he believes is currently under Israeli occupation.

Furthermore, the foreign minister criticized the United States' role in the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine. He blamed the U.S. as the primary reason for the United Nations' failures, particularly the Security Council, in upholding Palestinian rights.

Amir-Abdollahian directly addressed President Biden, urging the United States to withdraw its support for Israel in the ongoing conflict. He accused the U.S. of committing crimes against Palestinians and highlighted the severe and intensified bombardments on civilians, women, and children in Gaza and the West Bank as a result of American financial, arms, and operational backing to the Israeli regime.

As tensions continue to escalate in the region, the international community watches closely to see if Iran's warning of "uncontrollable consequences" will have any impact on the US approach to the conflict.
