Nearly three decades after the tragic death of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey in her Boulder home, investigators are turning to new DNA technology in hopes of finally solving the perplexing murder case.

JonBenet Ramsey was reported missing on December 26, 1996, and was later found deceased in her home, shocking the nation. The murder has remained unsolved, leaving the family and the community desperate for answers.

One year ago, the Boulder Police Department enlisted the help of the Colorado Cold Case Review Team, a team of experts from various law enforcement agencies including the FBI, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Boulder County District Attorney's Office, and public and private forensic laboratories. This team was assembled to re-examine the extensive evidence and provide fresh insights into the case.

To facilitate their analysis, the Cold Case Review Team digitized the extensive case evidence, which includes over 21,000 tips, more than 1,000 interviews, and samples collected from over 200 individuals, including DNA, fingerprints, handwriting, and shoeprints. After meticulously documenting and analyzing the evidence, the team has made investigative recommendations to the Boulder Police Department and Boulder District Attorney. However, these recommendations have not been made public.

The City of Boulder has emphasized that investigators are now focusing on DNA testing, as this field has rapidly evolved in recent years. They have meticulously preserved all forensic evidence, ensuring it remains viable for future testing, should new technologies emerge.

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold expressed her commitment to pursuing all possible leads and exploring technological advancements to identify JonBenet Ramsey's killer. "We will continue to prioritize this case and utilize the latest advancements in DNA technology to provide justice for JonBenet," Chief Herold stated. She also pledged to keep the community and the Ramsey family updated on the progress of the investigation as new evidence emerges.

The renewed efforts in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case, with a specific focus on DNA testing, offer a glimmer of hope in finally uncovering the truth behind this cold case. As advances in forensic technology continue to evolve, investigators are optimistic that justice will ultimately be served for JonBenet and her grieving family.
