The Garfield County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the death of a 22-year-old man from the Carbondale area, whose body was discovered at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The man, who was heavily armed and dressed in tactical clothing resembling law enforcement attire, had broken into the park after hours.

According to authorities, the suspect was found wearing body armor and a ballistic helmet. He was armed with a semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and had multiple loaded magazines for both weapons. Furthermore, improvised explosives were found in the vicinity of the suspect's body, as well as in his vehicle, which was left outside the park's entrance.

The Grand Junction Bomb Squad successfully disarmed the explosive devices and, together with the Garfield County All Hazard Response Team, conducted a thorough sweep of the park to ensure there were no hidden devices.

In a statement issued by the sheriff's office, they emphasized the potential danger the suspect posed to the community and first responders. Given the extent of weaponry, ammunition, and explosives discovered, the suspect could have carried out a devastating attack.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities conducted a search of the suspect's home, the details of which have not been disclosed. However, they have assured the public that there is currently no threat to their safety.

This unfortunate incident marks the second death at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in two years. In September 2021, a 6-year-old girl named Wongel Estifanos tragically lost her life after a worker failed to properly secure her restraints before a ride. The Estifanos family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the park, which is still pending.

As the investigation continues, the amusement park remains closed indefinitely. The Garfield County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in their ongoing efforts.
