In a recent development, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has called on the Justice Department to investigate his former business associate, Tony Bobulinski. According to a criminal referral letter obtained by ABC News, Hunter alleges that Bobulinski lied to federal investigators during an interview leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

Attorneys representing Hunter Biden wrote to Matthew Graves, the U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., accusing Bobulinski of intentionally misrepresenting his relationship with the Biden family. They assert that Bobulinski's actions were aimed at maligning the character and reputation of Hunter Biden and his family for personal gain.

Bobulinski, a retired Naval officer and self-described global businessman, came forward in October 2020 with allegations that the Bidens had deceived the public regarding Joe Biden's involvement in his son's proposed overseas business ventures. These claims were supported by former President Donald Trump and his allies at the time.

According to lawyer Abbe Lowell, Bobulinski misled investigators regarding his connections with the Biden family and the extent to which Joe Biden would benefit from potential foreign business ventures. This allegedly occurred during a voluntary interview at an FBI field office in Washington, D.C., on October 23, 2020.

Hunter Biden's legal representation maintains that Bobulinski was not present at a crucial meeting in Miami in February 2017, where the details of a prospective joint venture with a Chinese firm were discussed. They cite WhatsApp messages sent by Bobulinski after the meeting expressing frustration at not being invited. Furthermore, they argue that Bobulinski was not aware of Hunter Biden's involvement in the joint venture until nearly a week after the Miami meeting. These statements aim to refute Bobulinski's claims and dispel the notion of Joe Biden's involvement in these business dealings.

The criminal referral letter serves as a public rebuttal to some of the assertions made by Bobulinski about the Biden family. One particularly significant claim was his reference to "the big guy," which some Republicans used as evidence of President Biden's involvement in his son's overseas work. Lowell, Hunter Biden's lawyer, dismisses this allusion as wishful thinking on Bobulinski's part. Furthermore, the proposed joint venture was never funded, and the Chinese firm ultimately formed another joint venture with a competitor.

Bobulinski released a statement in response to the criminal referral, categorically denying its contents. He accused the Biden family of attempting to weaponize the DOJ against him and invited Hunter, Joe Biden, and his brother Jim to testify together in front of Congress. The timing of the referral aligns with reports suggesting that Bobulinski may be called to testify as a witness in the House Oversight Committee's impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Bobulinski gained attention during the final presidential debate in 2020 when he held a press briefing to disclose alleged details of his involvement with "the Biden family, including Joe Biden." This event set the stage for President Trump's subsequent accusations against Joe Biden during the debate. Biden vehemently denied the allegations, stating that he had never received any foreign funds.

As this investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the Justice Department will pursue an investigation into Tony Bobulinski's actions and allegations. The House Oversight Committee's interest in calling him as a witness further adds to the gravity of the situation. The public will be closely watching for the outcome of these proceedings and any potential implications they may have for the Biden family.
