In a potential development that could prolong an already contentious investigation, the House Judiciary Committee is reportedly in talks to have Special Counsel Robert Hur testify on Capitol Hill regarding President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents. Sources have informed Fox News Digital that the committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan, is considering late February or early March as possible dates for Hur's testimony.

The news comes after Hur released a comprehensive 388-page report clearing President Biden of any wrongdoing, despite acknowledging that he had "willfully retained and disclosed classified materials." In his report, Hur described the President as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory, making it difficult to convince a jury to convict him of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.

However, the decision not to recommend charges against Biden has sparked outrage among Republican lawmakers, who claim it exemplifies a two-tiered justice system in the United States. It has also raised questions about the President's fitness for office, particularly as he is now 81 years old.

In response to the report, Chairman Jordan, along with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Ways & Means Chairman Jason Smith, penned a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Monday, demanding the release of transcripts and recordings from Biden's interview with the special counsel's office. They accused the President of lying during a press conference by denying sharing classified information with his ghostwriter.

The letter further expressed concern over whether the White House or Biden's personal attorneys placed any limitations or restrictions on the interview that hindered an inquiry into evidence directly linking the President to problematic foreign payments related to his family's business dealings. The Judiciary Committee's discussion with Hur is expected to occur shortly after Hunter Biden's closed-door deposition on February 28 in front of Jordan and Comer's panels.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House and the Department of Justice for comment on the possibility of Hur's testimony. As of now, there has been no response from either entity.

These developments mark another chapter in the ongoing scrutiny of President Biden's actions, raising significant questions about his handling of classified information and his overall credibility. The potential testimony from Special Counsel Hur promises to shed more light on the matter, providing key insights into the investigation.
