This comes after Republicans initiated a push to hold the president's son in contempt.
Chairman Jordan, an Ohio Republican, shared this information while leaving a House Republican conference meeting on Wednesday morning. According to Jordan, talks between Hunter Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, and the committee's counsel have been positive so far.
Although a specific date has yet to be confirmed, Jordan stated, "Hunter Biden's coming in." He further added that while it won't be as early as this week, a deposition date could be set for as early as next week or beyond.
Last week, during hearings conducted by the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, both Republican-led panels voted to approve a resolution holding Hunter Biden in contempt. The resolution was then sent to the full House floor for a vote. However, during the Oversight hearing, Hunter Biden made an unexpected appearance and expressed his willingness to testify publicly. Subsequently, his legal team released a statement stating that the subpoenas issued on November 8 and 9, 2023, were invalid and proposed a public hearing instead.
Hunter Biden has continuously offered to testify publicly, but House Republicans have insisted on closed-door testimony. Republican Whip Tom Emmer referred to Hunter Biden's appearance at the Oversight Committee as a "press stunt" and stated that by the end of the week, his lawyer informed Chairmen Comer and Jordan of his readiness to comply after initially defying the subpoenas.
With negotiations currently taking place, Republicans have decided to temporarily halt the full House floor vote holding Hunter Biden in contempt. Nevertheless, Emmer warned that if the delays persist, Republicans will resume their efforts to hold him in contempt.
The outcome of these negotiations and the potential testimony of Hunter Biden will undoubtedly have significant implications for the ongoing investigations regarding his involvement. As the discussions progress, both sides will likely seek a resolution that allows for transparent proceedings while addressing the concerns and objectives of all parties involved.
