Edna, Texas - The tight-knit community of Edna, Texas mourns the tragic loss of Lizbeth Medina, a 16-year-old cheerleader from Edna High School who was found dead in her home's bathtub earlier this week. The investigation into her murder is ongoing as police work tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Lizbeth Medina, an ambitious teenager with dreams of becoming a nurse, was described by her aunt, Ana Medina, as a bright and spirited young girl. Raised by a single mother, Lizbeth was known for her close bond with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Her joy radiated whenever she cheered for her high school football team, illuminating her face with happiness.

The devastating turn of events unfolded on Tuesday when Jacqueline Medina, Lizbeth's mother, returned to their Cottonwood Apartments home around 7 p.m. to find her daughter unresponsive. She immediately dialed 911, and law enforcement officers from the Edna Police Department swiftly arrived at the scene. Tragically, they discovered Lizbeth Medina lifeless, revealing the grim reality of her murder.

Ana Medina stated that Lizbeth was still in her pajamas, preparing for school when tragedy struck. Desperately seeking answers, Lizbeth's grieving family called for information to aid in the investigation. The police have not disclosed specific details about the murder, highlighting that the case is still under investigation.

Law enforcement officials have yet to identify a suspect responsible for taking Lizbeth's life. In response to this heinous crime, the Edna Police Department has ramped up patrols in the area and vowed to apprehend the perpetrator. Edna Police Chief Rick Boone took to Facebook to assure the community that they are committed to finding the culprit and seeking justice for Lizbeth Medina.

Meanwhile, Lizbeth's family has appealed to the public for any information or security camera footage that could contribute to the investigation. They are determined to uncover the truth behind this senseless act of violence that abruptly cut short Lizbeth's dreams and potential.

Jacqueline Medina, who became a mother to Lizbeth at the age of 16 in Grand Island, Nebraska, has been left inconsolable by this devastating loss, according to Ana Medina. The pair relocated to Edna last year after Jacqueline secured a new job in renewable energy.

Seeking to give Lizbeth a proper farewell, the family has established a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her funeral and memorial. They had also planned a candlelight vigil at Edna High School in her honor, but due to concerns regarding the suspect still being at large, the high school unfortunately canceled the event.

As the Edna community reels from this tragedy, neighbors, friends, and even strangers have rallied together to support Lizbeth's grieving family. Messages of love, T-shirts memorializing Lizbeth, and batches of cookies have poured in, reflecting the community's determination to remember Lizbeth as the outgoing, selfless individual she was.

Edna, a close-knit city in Jackson County with a population of less than 6,000, has been shaken to its core by this untimely loss. As the investigation progresses, the community remains hopeful that justice will be served, and that Lizbeth Medina's memory will endure as a beacon of love and resilience in the face of tragedy.
