Head-On Collision in Preble County Leaves Two Dead

In a tragic incident, two individuals lost their lives in a head-on collision in Gratis Township, Preble County. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred early Monday morning on Route 503.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by OSHP, the collision involved Preble County Sheriff's Deputy Joshua Hamilton, 34, and 36-year-old Michael Gayhart II. Deputy Hamilton was driving south on Route 503 in a marked cruiser, while Gayhart was heading north.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the immediate fatalities of both drivers. No other individuals were involved in the crash.

Upon receiving the report at 4:09 a.m., OSHP deputies promptly responded to the scene of the accident. Route 503 had to be closed temporarily to allow officials to carry out an investigation. However, the road has since reopened, allowing normal traffic flow.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has stated that the crash remains under investigation. Authorities will thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the cause and any contributing factors.
