RIRIE - In memory of their late son, Blake Thueson, who tragically lost his life to HLH disease, Todd and Jodi Thueson have created a business called "BT Clothing" to raise awareness and support life-saving research efforts.
Blake, an aspiring professional bull rider, was just 18 years old when he fell ill while competing at the 2022 IMBA World Finals in Reno, Nevada. Despite his determination, Blake's health rapidly declined, and he was later diagnosed with HLH disease. Despite receiving medical attention at the University of Utah Hospital, Blake's life was cut short on November 19, 2022.
In their quest to understand the rare disease that took their son's life, Todd and Jodi Thueson decided to take action. Determined to bring awareness to HLH and raise funds for a cure and research, they established BT Clothing. The name, BT, stands as a tribute to their beloved son.
All proceeds from BT Clothing will be donated to the University of Utah for HLH research. Todd expressed gratitude towards the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for his family during Blake's treatment, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the cause.
Since its inception in September, BT Clothing has gained significant support, raising $2,700 thus far. A close friend of Blake's, Maycie Allred, even organized a fundraising event in memory of Blake, which raised an impressive $3,200 for HLH research. Together, Todd, Jodi, and Maycie will present their contributions to the University of Utah on December 23 as a testament to Blake's legacy.
Despite the progress made, Todd and Jodi admit that the journey of healing is still challenging. Attending bull riding events, in particular, is bittersweet, as Blake's absence is felt deeply. However, Todd finds solace in the love and support he receives from Blake's friends and the community.
BT Clothing offers a range of merchandise, including hats, shirts, and other items, with some of the shirts featuring quotes from Blake himself. In addition to online sales, Todd and Jodi have actively participated in various events, such as the 2023 IMBA World Finals in Ogden, Utah, where they received overwhelming support during an HLH awareness night dedicated to Blake.
On December 16, Todd and Jodi will be part of the "Cowboy Christmas: NFR Viewing and Dinner Show" at the Elks Lodge in Idaho Falls, further showcasing their commitment to raising awareness and support.
As they continue their journey, Todd and Jodi express their immense gratitude for the support and kindness they have received. Through BT Clothing, they hope to honor Blake's memory by making a lasting impact in the fight against HLH disease.
