In Pakistan's ongoing general elections, several countries have expressed serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the electoral process. As vote counting is underway, independent candidates linked to imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), are currently leading by a slight margin. However, the polls have been marred by incidents of violence perpetrated by armed groups and a widely criticized suspension of mobile phone services, which have led to accusations of "political engineering."

The United States Department of State has called for "timely, complete election results" that truly reflect the will of the Pakistani people. They have expressed their willingness to work with the incoming government, regardless of its political affiliation, to advance shared interests. Notably, the US has joined credible international and local election observers in condemning the restrictions on freedoms of expression, association, and peaceful assembly, while also expressing concern over allegations of interference in the electoral process. The Department of State emphasizes the importance of thoroughly investigating claims of interference or fraud.

Similarly, the United Kingdom has raised serious concerns about the fairness and inclusivity of the elections. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron has highlighted that not all parties were able to participate formally in the election due to legal processes, thereby limiting democratic representation. Additionally, he pointed out restrictions on internet access and noted delays and irregularities in reporting. The UK calls on Pakistani authorities to uphold fundamental human rights, including free access to information and the rule of law. Cameron concludes by emphasizing the need for the new government to be accountable to all citizens and represent their interests with equity and justice.

The European Union (EU) acknowledges the commitment to democracy demonstrated by the Pakistani people; however, it regrets the lack of a level playing field in the elections. The EU cites the inability of certain political actors to compete and restrictions on freedom of assembly and expression, both online and offline, along with alleged interference in the electoral process and arrests of political activists. The EU urges authorities in Pakistan to promptly investigate all reported irregularities.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman expressed congratulations to Pakistan's government and people on the successful parliamentary elections, highlighting the strong foundation of democracy within the country. The spokesman extended wishes for increasing prosperity to Pakistan, emphasizing the brotherly, friendly, and neighborly relations between the two countries.

As global concerns mount over the reported irregularities in Pakistan's general elections, international pressure is increasing on authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into all alleged electoral misconduct. It remains to be seen how these concerns will impact the formation and functioning of the new government in Pakistan.
