German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has strongly denounced a reported far-right plan for mass deportation of individuals of non-German origin. Scholz emphasized that Germany is committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of all its residents, regardless of their ancestry.
The alleged plan, said to have been discussed during a meeting involving far-right groups and representatives of the far-right AfD party in November, was brought to light by investigative journalists' group Correctiv in a recent article. The description of the plan outlined proposals for the mass deportation of millions of immigrants if these far-right groups were to assume power.
Taking to the messaging platform X, Scholz firmly stated, "We will not allow someone to determine who is 'We' in our country based on a person's immigration history. We protect everyone, irrespective of their origins, skin color, or the discomfort they may cause fanatics with assimilation fantasies."
Scholz further reiterated that those who oppose Germany's free democratic order would be subject to scrutiny by the country's domestic intelligence agency and the judiciary. Highlighting the importance of learning from history, Scholz made a reference to the Nazi era, where antisemitism and intolerance towards ethnic groups were instrumental within the dictatorship's politics. These policies ultimately culminated in the Holocaust, resulting in the murder of 6 million Jews and other minority groups.
The alleged meeting, which reportedly discussed deportations to Africa, prompted Scholz to reflect on the darkest chapter of Germany's recent history. Speaking to broadcaster MDR, he emphasized the necessity for Democrats to stand united in the face of such divisive ideologies.
As the German Chancellor, Scholz's firm condemnation of the far-right plan serves as a strong statement against any form of discrimination or prejudice based on ethnicity. By reaffirming Germany's commitment to protecting the rights of all individuals, Scholz aims to ensure a society that upholds democratic values and inclusivity.
