Georgia State Trooper tragically loses life in pursuit; suspect remains at large

In a devastating turn of events, Georgia State Trooper Cenescar met with an untimely demise while in the line of duty. Rushed to Northside Gwinnett Hospital, Cenescar succumbed to his injuries, leaving the law enforcement community and his loved ones in mourning. Governor Brian Kemp took to Twitter to express his condolences, referring to Cenescar as "Georgia's finest."
Cenescar's fiance and father, though devastated, chose to remain off-camera when speaking to Channel 2's Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson, adding to the somber atmosphere surrounding the tragic incident.
The dedicated trooper had been serving with the Georgia Department of Public Safety since January 2023, having graduated from the 114th Trooper School. Prior to that, Cenescar had spent three years with the Atlanta Police, where his heroics were celebrated in 2021. The police department released body camera footage showcasing Cenescar's courageous act of rescuing an individual who had driven off a bridge.
The circumstances leading to Cenescar's fatal accident involved a pursuit, but it remains unclear whether the driver he was chasing has been apprehended. The identity of the suspect has also yet to be disclosed.
Governor Brian Kemp expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "Marty, the girls, and I are truly heartbroken by the tragic passing of one of Georgia's finest. This is the ultimate sacrifice, and our hearts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones mourning this loss, as well as all law enforcement officials who selflessly serve their fellow Georgians."
