French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has tendered her resignation on Monday, citing recent political tensions over immigration. President Emmanuel Macron's office has confirmed that a new government will be appointed in the coming days.

Borne's decision to step down comes following the passage of controversial immigration legislation supported by Macron's administration. The legislation aimed to enhance the government's authority in deporting certain foreign individuals, alongside other measures.

Elisabeth Borne assumed the role of Prime Minister in May 2022, following President Macron's re-election for a second term. Notably, she became France's second female Prime Minister.

In an official statement, Macron's office expressed the President's acceptance of Borne's resignation. Macron himself acknowledged Borne's dedicated work, describing it as "exemplary every day" on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The President's office has revealed that Borne will continue carrying out her duties until a new government is appointed. This transitional period ensures the seamless flow of governmental affairs until Macron's chosen successor for the position is designated.

As France anticipates the formation of a new government, the consequences of Borne's resignation and how it will shape the political landscape remain to be seen. The decision marks another chapter in the nation's ongoing discourse surrounding immigration policies that have echoed throughout Europe.
