LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Four teenagers involved in the beating death of Jonathan Lewis, a 17-year-old student at Rancho High School, are now facing charges as adults. The suspects appeared in Clark County Justice Court on Friday, with three already making their initial court appearance in the morning and a fourth scheduled for the afternoon.
During the court hearing, the teens were identified as Gianni Robinson, Damien Hernandez, Dontral Beave, and Treavion Randolph. The three who appeared in the morning, Robinson, Hernandez, and Beave, will remain in custody until their next court date, as ordered by the judge.
The charges against the four teenagers include open murder, with each individual facing one count of this charge. This comes after the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested a total of eight suspects in connection with Lewis' death.
The incident took place on November 1 when officers from the LVMPD responded to a battery call near Rancho High School at Searles Ave. and 21st St. Upon arrival, they found Lewis injured, with severe head injuries and bleeding. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was put on life support. However, despite efforts, Lewis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Four of the suspects, identified as Robinson, Hernandez, Randolph, and Beave, are being held in adult custody, while four younger individuals are currently in the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center. The latter already appeared in Juvenile Court, as announced by the police earlier.
In a media conference held on November 14, the LVMPD stated that they were seeking two additional "persons of interest" in connection with the case and provided photographs to aid in their identification.
The court appearance on Friday marks the next step in the legal process for these teenagers, and their charges as adults reflect the seriousness and gravity of the crime they are accused of committing. As the investigation progresses, authorities will continue their efforts to bring justice for the tragic death of Jonathan Lewis.
