LAS VEGAS - Four teenagers, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, Damien Hernandez, and Treavion Randolph, who are facing murder charges in connection with the fatal beating of a student near Rancho High School, are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. The teenagers, aged between 16 and 17, made their first appearance in adult court last Friday and will be tried together.
The court appearance, set for Tuesday, November 21 at 8:30 a.m., is expected to be an initial arraignment where a judge will address bail. According to Daniel Martinez from the Clark County Special Public Defender's Office, if charges are filed by the district attorney, a not guilty plea will likely be entered during the arraignment. The four defendants will remain in custody until their next hearing.
The incident in question occurred on Wednesday, November 1, in the 1900 block of Searles Avenue near Rancho High School. Police have stated that the fight, which resulted in the death of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis, was sparked over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and potentially a vape pen.
LVMPD Lt. Jason Johannson described the video of the incident as "void of humanity" and confirmed that there was no evidence to suggest that it could be considered a hate crime. However, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson revealed that there are even more gruesome videos related to the incident that have yet to be made public, which may be released in the coming weeks or months.
Of the 10 individuals believed to be involved in the altercation, eight have been identified and arrested. All ten individuals were students at Rancho High School, ranging in age from 13 to 17. The remaining four suspects are currently in the juvenile court system, awaiting certification to enter the adult court system. Their court date is scheduled for December 6.
Meanwhile, the police have released photos of two additional "persons of interest" seen in the video but have not yet been identified. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
As the legal proceedings continue, the community mourns the loss of Jonathan Lewis and demands justice for the senseless act of violence that took his life.
