Beavercreek police have provided more details regarding the shooting incident that took place at a Walmart store on Monday night. The shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Jones, a resident of Dayton who had returned to the area within the past year.

According to witnesses, Jones entered the Walmart on Pentagon Blvd. carrying a High-Point .45-caliber carbine long gun and proceeded to open fire. Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the incident.

Authorities confirmed on Tuesday morning that four individuals, consisting of three women and one man, were injured during the shooting. Three of the victims remain in critical condition, while one sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A later update stated that three victims had improved to a stable condition, while one continued to be listed as critical but stable. All of the victims were identified as shoppers present in the store at the time of the incident.

Investigators have determined that Jones did not specifically target any individual, as his victims were found scattered throughout the store. Upon police arrival, Jones was discovered deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was located behind the vision center inside the store, only eight minutes after the first 911 call was received.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities located Jones' vehicle in the store's parking lot and subsequently obtained a search warrant to examine it. The FBI also assisted in executing a search warrant at Jones' residence, as they seek to establish a possible motive for the shooting.

Zrinka Dilber, FBI Special Agent in Charge from the agency's Cincinnati bureau, stated that they are investigating Jones' background, but did not confirm if the shooting was racially motivated.

The Beavercreek Walmart has temporarily closed its doors "until further notice" following the tragic incident.

The community remains shaken by the shooting, and residents are coming together to offer support and solidarity to the victims and their families. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
