In an impassioned speech at Dartmouth College, former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., called on New Hampshire voters to take a stand against the "cowardice" she perceives spreading within the Republican Party. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Jan. 23 primary, Cheney emphasized the significance of their votes, asserting that the world would be watching.

Cheney, who previously served in House Republican leadership during her time in Congress, urged voters to represent the nation's values through their choices. She implored them to send a resounding message that the United States is a nation of strength and resilience, unyielding in the defense of freedom. Cheney highlighted the urgency of countering the "plague of cowardice" that she believes is engulfing the Republican Party.

The former GOP congresswoman has been embroiled in conflicts with fellow Republican lawmakers over the past few years. Her criticism of former President Trump's unfounded claims of election fraud, his handling of the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, and her vote to impeach him led to a divisive rift within the party. Cheney played a key role as the vice chair of the Congressional committee that investigated the Capitol riot.

Expressing her concern, Cheney stated that a group of elected Republicans can no longer be relied upon to defend the Constitution, emphasizing the need for unwavering commitment to the nation's foundational principles.

In a related development, the Supreme Court announced its intention to determine whether Trump can be excluded from state ballots due to his role in the riots. This comes after Colorado and Maine recently took steps to remove the former president from their respective ballots, citing a provision under the 14th Amendment that disqualifies those engaged in insurrection from holding public office.

Cheney expressed support for the legal proceedings, stressing that Trump's actions fulfilled the criteria outlined in the 14th Amendment. She acknowledged that conviction in the Senate or a court of law is not required; instead, the plain language of the constitution should inform the decision.

Despite her policy disagreements with President Biden, Cheney urged conservative Republicans to recognize the stark contrast between the threats posed by Trump and Biden. While policy mistakes can be rectified, Cheney argued that a president willing to undermine the Constitution poses an irreparable danger to the nation.

When questioned about her future political aspirations, including the possibility of a third-party presidential run, Cheney affirmed her commitment to preventing Trump from being elected again. She vowed to strategize and determine the most effective course of action in the coming months based on developments in the Republican primaries.

As the New Hampshire primary approaches, Liz Cheney's impassioned plea serves as a call to action for voters to defy perceived cowardice within the Republican Party and make their voices heard on a national stage. The outcome of this pivotal primary will undoubtedly resonate far beyond the state's borders.
