In her highly anticipated book, "Oath and Honor," former Rep. Liz Cheney sets out to paint a scathing portrait of the Republican Party and its leaders, whom she accuses of being "enablers and collaborators." Obtained exclusively by CNN ahead of its December 5 release, the book offers an unflinching account of Cheney's disillusionment with her former colleagues and her grave concerns about the future of American democracy.

Cheney's book serves as both a roadmap of her awakening to the dangers posed by former President Donald Trump and his allies' attempts to overturn the 2020 election, as well as a stark warning that the checks and balances of the Constitution may not hold if Trump is reelected in 2024. The Wyoming Republican asserts that while enduring damaging policies for a four-year term is possible, the nation cannot survive with a president willing to disregard the Constitution.

Drawing from real-time text messages, emails, calls, and meetings, as well as personal conversations, Cheney exposes her Republican colleagues' hypocrisy and complicity. She claims they knew Trump had lost the election but still chose to do his bidding for the sake of political expediency and loyalty to the former president.

One of the most devastating takedowns in Cheney's book is directed at former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. According to Cheney, McCarthy confessed to her that Trump knew he had lost the election just two days after Election Day. Cheney also criticizes McCarthy's successor, House Speaker Mike Johnson, asserting that he was easily swayed by Trump's flattery and aspired to be in Trump's orbit.

Cheney's book sheds new light on how Republican lawmakers went from condemning Trump to falling back in line and supporting his baseless claims of election fraud. She reveals that during a GOP conference call, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan was dismissive of the legal process and voiced the belief that winning was the only thing that mattered.

Furthermore, Cheney exposes how Johnson pressured Republican members to support efforts to throw out the election results from four states Trump had lost. Despite Cheney's objections and pointing out flaws in the legal arguments, Johnson reportedly insisted on supporting Trump's agenda.

The book also details Cheney's account of the lead-up to the January 6 attack on the Capitol. She describes a scene in the GOP cloakroom where members were encouraged to sign their names on electoral vote objection sheets, knowing it was a farce and another display of loyalty to Trump. Cheney specifically references Republican Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee, who sheepishly expressed, "The things we do for the Orange Jesus."

As vice chair of the House's January 6 committee, Cheney played a prominent role in uncovering new details about Trump's attempts to overturn the election. Her book provides a first-hand account of the events behind the scenes, exposing the complicity of her Republican colleagues and their disregard for democracy.

Cheney's book serves as a solemn warning, and she has declared her determination to do whatever is necessary to prevent Trump from returning to the White House, including considering a 2024 presidential run herself. If Trump secures the GOP's nomination, Cheney has stated her intention to leave the party.

Not surprisingly, Trump's spokesman, Stephen Cheung, dismissed Cheney's book as fiction. However, its release is expected to ignite further discussions and controversy within the GOP as Cheney's revelations challenge the party's loyalty to Trump and raise questions about the future of the Republican Party.

With "Oath and Honor," Liz Cheney opens a window into the GOP's "cowardice" and exposes the dangers of a party willing to put political expediency above the principles of the Constitution. As the book prepares to hit the shelves, it remains to be seen how its revelations will impact the party and the overall political landscape.
