ATLANTA - Former President Jimmy Carter, aged 99, is anticipated to attend services in Atlanta to honor his late wife, first lady Rosalynn Carter. According to a source familiar with his whereabouts, Carter is expected to participate in a ceremony at the Carter Center on Monday and services at Emory University on Tuesday, pending his rest and overall well-being.

Confirmation of Carter's presence at a tribute service on Tuesday at Glenn Memorial Church was provided separately by a spokesperson for the Carter Center. The former president's appearance comes months after he entered hospice care in February of this year, which limited his public appearances.

Rosalynn Carter passed away on November 19 at the age of 96 in Plains, Georgia, just days after entering hospice care. In a statement following her demise, Jimmy Carter expressed, "Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me."

Jimmy Carter, who turned 99 in early October, holds the distinction of being the longest-living U.S. president in history. The couple made a joint appearance in their hometown of Plains in September, delighting attendees as they rode together in a black SUV during the Plains Peanut Festival.

Although the former president has encountered several health challenges in recent years, including a fractured pelvis, a black eye from separate falls in 2019, and a battle with cancer that spread to his liver and brain (later declared in remission), Carter has remained resilient. He served as the 39th U.S. president after winning the election in 1976 against Republican President Gerald Ford, following the Watergate scandal. However, he lost his reelection bid in 1980 to Ronald Reagan.

As Jimmy Carter prepares to pay his final respects to his beloved wife, the nation stands in solidarity, acknowledging the remarkable bond and partnership shared by the former president and the late first lady.
