The Carter Center announced on Sunday that the motorcade route for former First Lady Rosalynn Carter's commemorative events has been released. The motorcade is set to begin its journey at 10 a.m. in downtown Plains, Georgia, and will travel through several towns and cities before reaching its final destination in Atlanta.
The initial leg of the motorcade will take the route northeast on U.S. 280 towards the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, located approximately 10 miles away in Americus. Following a departure ceremony at the hospital, the motorcade will continue on U.S. 280, turn north on U.S. 19, and proceed east on West Lamar Street, passing through downtown Americus.
Upon reaching Georgia Southwestern State University, the motorcade will turn right on Tripp Street and enter the university through GSW State University Drive. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex, honoring Mrs. Carter's enduring contributions in the field of healthcare.
After the conclusion of the ceremonies, the motorcade will depart the university via State University Drive, making a left on Tripp Street, and another left on East Forsyth Street, passing through downtown Americus once again. The motorcade will then travel 35 miles north on U.S. 19, heading towards the town of Butler.
Upon reaching state Route 540/96, the motorcade will change direction and proceed eastward, covering another 34 miles until it reaches I-75 at Byron. The motorcade will then travel seven miles north on the interstate before transitioning onto I-475 and eventually rejoining I-75, continuing its journey towards Atlanta.
As the motorcade approaches Atlanta, it will take Exit 248C for John Lewis Freedom Parkway, finally arriving at the Carter Presidential Center at approximately 2:30 p.m. Here, Mrs. Carter's legacy and contributions will be honored and celebrated.
The Carter Center has advised the public to be aware of potential limitations in parking availability in some areas and to expect temporary road closures throughout the motorcade route. Additionally, they have requested individuals to be respectful of private property at all times during the commemorative events.
The motorcade route serves as a symbolic journey, recognizing Rosalynn Carter's dedication to public service and lifelong work in promoting health and human rights. This commemorative occasion promises to be a fitting tribute to an extraordinary First Lady.
