A former Delta pilot, Jonathan J. Dunn, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Utah for allegedly intimidating his co-pilot with a firearm during a commercial flight in August 2022. The U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General stated that Dunn interfered with the performance of a crew member by using a firearm to assault and intimidate the captain.

The incident reportedly occurred after a disagreement about a potential flight diversion due to a passenger medical event. Dunn allegedly threatened the captain, stating that they would be shot multiple times if the flight was diverted. This prompted the authorities to take action against him.

Dunn was authorized to carry a firearm onboard the flight through the Transportation Security Administration's Federal Flight Deck Officer program. However, the TSA has since removed him from the program, which allows certain pilots to carry a TSA issued firearm to defend against criminal violence or air piracy.

In addition, it has been revealed that Dunn does not currently hold a valid medical certificate, which is required for flying. Following the incident, his medical certificate was revoked.

Delta Air Lines has confirmed that Dunn was employed by the airline at the time of the incident. However, the company has decided not to comment further on the matter, as it is respecting the ongoing aviation authority investigation.

Dunn is scheduled to be arraigned on November 16, where he will face charges for interfering with the crew of a commercial airline flight.
