In a significant move ahead of the Republican primary in New Hampshire, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson announced his support for Nikki Haley on Saturday. Hutchinson, who dropped out of the presidential race following a lackluster performance in the Iowa caucuses, expressed his reservations about Donald Trump's ability to unite the country.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Hutchinson stated, "Anyone who believes Donald Trump will unite this country has been asleep over the last 8 years. Trump intentionally tries to divide America and will continue to do so. Go @NikkiHaley in New Hampshire. #FITN."

Hutchinson's endorsement of Haley comes as a boost for her campaign, especially considering his previous criticisms of Trump. Last year, Hutchinson drew ire from a Republican crowd when he suggested that it was likely Trump would be found guilty of a felony before the election concluded. He also called for Trump to drop out of the race after the former president was first indicted on criminal charges, deeming it a "sideshow and distraction" during the election.

Clarifying his support for Haley, Hutchinson told Fox News that his tweet was not an "official" endorsement but emphasized that he was happy to offer his backing to the candidate in New Hampshire.

Despite a narrow third-place finish in Iowa, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis securing a higher position, Haley is currently polling second to Trump in New Hampshire. Trump, who won Iowa by a significant margin of 30 points, maintains a double-digit lead in the upcoming New Hampshire primary.

Haley's bid to secure the nomination will undoubtedly receive a boost from Hutchinson's endorsement, as he joins the ranks of previous presidential candidates Vikek Ramaswamy and Senator Tim Scott, who have already thrown their support behind Trump.

As the primary in New Hampshire draws nearer, the impact of endorsements and the candidates' performances in this critical state could potentially reshape the dynamics of the Republican presidential race.
