Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley sat down for an interview with ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis, where she touched on various key topics, including former President Donald Trump, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and abortion. The interview took place in Sioux Center, Iowa, as Haley continued her campaign swing across the state.
During the interview, Davis asked Haley about her thoughts on Trump's fitness to be president. While Haley did not answer the question during the recent GOP debate, she expressed that it was not a matter of fitness but rather a belief that Trump is not the right person to be president at this time.
Haley clarified her stance, stating, "It's not about being fit. It's just I don't think he's the right person to be president. We've got to look at the issues that we're dealing with, coming forward with new solutions, not focusing on negativity and baggage of the past."
Despite previously expressing support for Trump during her campaign, Haley emphasized the need for the country to move past him. She stated that her loyalty lies with what is right for the country and its future direction, rather than being entirely for or against Trump.
Moving on to global affairs, Haley addressed the Israel-Hamas conflict and called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take decisive action against Hamas. She argued that eliminating Hamas was the best way to ensure the safety of both Israeli and Palestinian civilians, dismissing the idea of a cease-fire due to previous Hamas attacks and hostility.
When asked about who should control Gaza, Haley suggested that while Israel does not want Gaza, it needs to be a safe and secure place, free from terrorist activities. She emphasized the importance of finding a solution that strengthens Israeli border security while ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in Gaza.
Shifting gears, Haley discussed her stance on abortion, attempting to maintain a delicate balance between her personal views and the will of the people. She avoided outright support for specific federal bans, but stated that she would sign any bill that could pass the Senate. However, she also noted the challenges in passing such bans under current filibuster rules.
Addressing a specific abortion case, Haley emphasized that it should not be left solely in the hands of unelected judges. She believes that the issue of abortion should be decided by the people, as various states have adopted different stances on the matter.
Haley's interview also touched on her views on social media platform TikTok, which she expressed a desire to ban. She rejected criticism from fellow candidate Vivek Ramaswamy regarding her daughter's past use of the platform, urging him to leave her family out of the conversation and referring to him as "scum."
Nikki Haley's interview covered a wide range of topics, showcasing her nuanced positions on Trump, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and abortion. As she continues her campaign, she maintains her focus on what she believes is best for the country and its future.
