A foreign exchange student who had been reported missing last week has been found safe, according to local authorities in Riverdale, Utah. Kai Zhuang, the student staying with a host family in Riverdale, was the subject of a kidnapping report filed on Friday. The Riverdale Police received information from the high school regarding the missing student, following a report received from the victim's parents in China.

The parents had informed the high school officials that they received a photograph suggesting their child had been abducted and demanded a ransom for his release. Fearing for their child's safety, Kai's family transferred approximately $80,000 to bank accounts in China, as instructed by the kidnappers, who had been continuously threatening them.

Law enforcement officials believe that Kai had been isolating himself under the direction of cyber kidnappers who have been targeting Chinese foreign exchange students. These cyber kidnappers employ tactics such as threatening the victims and their families, demanding ransoms, and instructing the victims to cut off contact with the outside world while monitoring them through video calls on platforms such as Facetime or Skype.

Fortunately, Kai Zhuang was located alive in a tent near Brigham City, Utah. Although he was reported to be very cold and scared, he had managed to find some food, water, and a sleeping bag in the tent. Authorities noted that he had no heating source and were relieved to have found him before the situation worsened.

Riverdale Police are urging the public to take precautions against cyber kidnappings. They emphasized that anyone targeted in such a situation should immediately contact their local police department and refrain from sending any money to the perpetrators. The release also stressed the importance of discontinuing contact with the suspects and cooperating fully with law enforcement.
