Five teenagers, aged 15 to 17, have been charged with felony battery following a physical altercation at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, according to the Coral Springs Police Department. Arrest affidavits were obtained for the group involved in the incident that occurred on December 12.

As of December 15, four of the teenagers were in custody. The last teenager turned himself in to the police after the incident.

The altercation took place near the student parking lot at around 3 p.m. local time, prompting officers to respond to reports of a fight. One student was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Video evidence showed the group of teenagers ambushing an 18-year-old student in the parking lot. The victim was lifted into the air, slammed on the ground, and viciously assaulted by multiple individuals. Witnesses confirmed that the fight began with a punch to the victim's face, leading others to join in the attack.

Four of the teens involved were identified as students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which tragically became internationally known after a shooting in 2018 left 17 people dead. The fifth teen attends Coral Glades High School.

The Coral Springs Police Department, in a Facebook post on Monday, acknowledged that they were still working on identifying an additional suspect in the incident. They expressed their commitment to the safety of the community and schools, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated in Coral Springs.

Felony battery is categorized as a third-degree felony in Florida, carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. The ongoing investigation may lead to further arrests as authorities continue their efforts to address the incident and ensure the safety of the community.

With this recent incident adding to concerns about safety at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, parents and students are left hoping for a swift resolution and strengthened security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
