UPDATE: Emergency responders have successfully extinguished a fire at the Gopher Resource recycling plant in Eagan. Crews cleared the scene around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, marking an end to the firefighting operation.

The fire, which broke out on the roof of the recycling plant near Highway 149 and Yankee Doodle Road, was reported to the Eagan firefighters shortly before 5 a.m. Efforts to contain the fire were deemed successful, with no spreading to any products inside the building.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway to determine its origin.

The severity of the fire prompted fire crews to classify it as a five-alarm fire due to the challenging nature of containing the flames between two rooftops. This required additional labor-intensive measures to control the situation.

As a precautionary measure, a hazmat team has been deployed to the scene to monitor air quality, ensuring there is no threat to the public. Thus far, no immediate risks have been identified.

Earlier in the day, Highway 149 was temporarily closed to facilitate the firefighting efforts but has since been reopened.

Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the fire, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
