A 17-year-old teenager, Jahmeer Beauziel, has turned himself in to police and has been charged with felony battery in connection to a violent attack that occurred just outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. This comes after four other teenagers, Caleb Hensley, Sylvester Hicks Jr., Chinua Leefatt, and Jordan Thompson, were arrested last week and charged with the same offense.
Authorities have revealed that the incident stemmed from an argument that initially began within the school premises, but they are still unclear about the exact motive behind the attack. Coral Springs Police Sgt. Ernesto Bruna stated that the argument led to the unfortunate incident, but further information regarding the nature of the disagreement has not been disclosed.
Although police have not provided details concerning the injuries sustained by the victim, they cited medical privacy laws as the reason behind this decision. As a result, the extent of the victim's injuries remains unknown.
Efforts to obtain comments from the parents and guardians of Beauziel, Hensley, Hicks, and Leefatt were unsuccessful as they could not be reached for a statement. Similarly, the Thompson family declined to comment on the situation.
The four teenagers arrested earlier appeared in court on Friday and were subsequently released to the custody of their parents and guardians. Beauziel's court appearance is slated for Tuesday.
This incident has once again brought attention to the ongoing repercussions of the tragic school shooting that occurred in Parkland in 2018. Authorities are actively investigating the links between these cases and any potential impact they may have on the community's healing process.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry.
