BOW, N.H. (AP) - A vehicle crash on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire resulted in a massive fire that set off hundreds of rounds of ammunition, leading to traffic disruptions, according to state police.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when State Police received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier, careened across all lanes of traffic, and collided with another vehicle. It eventually came to a stop in a wooded area close to the highway, where a fire quickly engulfed the vehicle, said troopers at the scene.

Miraculously, all three occupants managed to exit the vehicle before the flames took hold. However, one person sustained significant injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Another occupant was found to have multiple warrants and was subsequently arrested by law enforcement, troopers confirmed.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision, the troopers added.

The situation worsened as the burning vehicle continued to explode with several hundred rounds of ammunition inside. The ammunition rounds started detonating, showering the area with potentially dangerous projectiles even as emergency responders rushed to the scene. Firefighters eventually arrived and were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before the incident resulted in the closure of multiple lanes of travel due to safety concerns.

The closure caused significant traffic delays in the area, inconveniencing motorists for several hours. As emergency personnel worked diligently to contain the fire and clear the wreckage, alternative routes were advised to minimize the impact on commuters.
