The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched an investigation into numerous hoax bomb threats that were sent to various secretaries of state and state legislatures across the country on Wednesday. The FBI, in a statement, confirmed its awareness of the incidents and emphasized the seriousness of hoax threats, as they put innocent people at risk.
Although there is currently no specific and credible threat, the FBI stated its commitment to collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to gather and share threat information. The bureau remains committed to taking swift action if any credible threats come to its attention.
The hoax threat came in the form of a mass email titled "Explosives inside of your State Capitol," which was sent at 7:45 a.m. ABC News obtained a copy of the email, which claimed that multiple explosives had been hidden inside various state Capitol buildings and were set to detonate within a few hours. The email also included a disturbing message stating, "I will make sure you all end up dead."
Law enforcement sources suspect that the email originated from overseas. Kentucky Secretary of State, Michael Adams, expressed his commitment to ensuring that the work of the people would not be disrupted by violent behavior or threats, stating, "Whether it's our U.S. Capitol or our state capitols, the people's work will not be held hostage."
Upon receiving the email, Kentucky's deputy secretary of state promptly forwarded it to the Kentucky State Police. As a precautionary measure, the Capitol was evacuated, but no explosives were found during the search conducted by law enforcement personnel.
In response to these hoax bomb threats, the FBI has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to law enforcement immediately. The bureau emphasized the importance of proactive reporting to ensure the safety of all citizens.
As the investigation into these hoax bomb threats continues, state authorities, along with federal agencies, are working diligently to identify the source of the threats and bring those responsible to justice. The FBI reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and security of all individuals and institutions affected by such malicious actions.
It is critical for the public to exercise caution and stay informed as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to mitigate potential threats and maintain public safety.
