CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. - Tragic news struck Calhoun County as the cause of death for a missing father and daughter has been revealed. The Calhoun County coroner, Donnie Porth, has determined that Michelle Murph, 6, and her father, Jason Murph, 42, died of hypothermia.
Autopsy results, conducted on Friday, were inconclusive. However, based on the weather elements surrounding the case, the coroner was able to make this determination. The Murphs were reported missing on Sunday, December 17th, and were discovered dead near their burned and damaged truck in Calhoun County on Monday, December 18th.
The truck was found in a field off of Lavender Lane. K9 units were brought in to assist in the search and found the victims approximately 30 to 50 yards to the right of the truck. The truck appeared to have been involved in a crash and subsequent fire.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the cause of the crash. It remains unclear how long the father and daughter were exposed to the elements before help arrived. The community is left in shock and mourning for the loss of these two lives.
Hypothermia occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce it, resulting in a dangerously low body temperature. This condition can be life-threatening, especially when exposed to cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
The tragic deaths of Michelle and Jason Murph serve as a somber reminder of the importance of staying warm and protected during harsh weather conditions, particularly during the winter months. Authorities urge residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and seek assistance if faced with extreme weather situations.
As the investigation continues, the community is rallying together to support one another during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements for Michelle and Jason Murph are yet to be announced.
