In a shocking incident that unfolded near Pearlridge Center on Friday morning, an estranged wife became the victim of a fatal shooting carried out by her husband, Jason Cachuela. Panicked customers and employees at the parking lot were sent into a state of fear and chaos as the tragedy unfolded.

The devastating event took place despite Jason Cachuela not having a criminal record. However, in the days leading up to the incident, he had repeatedly threatened suicide, leading his wife, Theresa Cachuela, to take action by obtaining a temporary restraining order (TRO) against him on grounds of stalking.

According to the TRO statement submitted by Theresa Cachuela, the terrifying behavior began on December 6th. She detailed how her estranged husband had made "threats of killing himself" in her presence and even went as far as holding a knife to his own neck during a trip to Waikiki. These incidents traumatized and scared her.

Court records revealed that just two days before the tragic shooting, an agreement was reached between the couple regarding visitation with their children. It was decided that Jason Cachuela would stay away from Theresa but would still have visitation rights. The intention was for him to return the children after the arranged visitation for a celebratory gathering with the family, as per Theresa's wishes.

It was discovered that loving messages and cards between the couple were exchanged as early as the first week of December, leading some to believe that their relationship could have been salvaged with the right intervention.

Theresa Cachuela sought assistance in filing the restraining order from the Domestic Violence Action Center, an organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence. The CEO of the center, Monique Ibarra, expressed her grief over the incident, stating that she has seen numerous victims lose their lives in murder-suicide cases. Ibarra emphasized the importance of not hesitating to seek support, urging other victims of abuse to reach out for help.

The tragedy surrounding Theresa Cachuela's case is compounded by her intentions behind filing the TRO. She made it clear that her goal was not to punish her estranged husband but to protect herself, their children, and, hopefully, to get him the help he desperately needed.

This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the urgency in addressing domestic violence and ensuring that victims have access to the necessary resources and support.
