Elon Musk, the world's richest man, is set to visit Israel next week, according to Israeli media reports. News outlet N12 revealed that Musk intends to tour towns near the border with Gaza, specifically the Gaza envelope, which is the populated area of Israel located approximately 4.3 miles from the Gaza Strip border.

The decision to visit comes after Hamas' surprise terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, which had a significant impact on the Gaza envelope. The attack resulted in the loss of approximately 1,400 lives in Israel, with 240 individuals being taken hostage.

N12 reported that Musk aims to witness firsthand the aftermath of the attacks on settlements and kibbutzim located in the area. In addition to assessing the situation, the billionaire entrepreneur is scheduled to meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit.

However, sources in the president's office were unable to confirm Musk's visit at the time of reporting. Similarly, representatives for Netanyahu did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

This visit follows Musk's previous meeting with Netanyahu in California back in September, where discussions centered around antisemitism on Musk's social media platform known as X (formerly Twitter), as reported by AP News.

Musk faced widespread criticism for a recent post on X, in which he referred to an antisemitic remark as "the actual truth." The White House swiftly denounced the post as an "abhorrent promotion of Antisemitic and racist hate."

In response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Musk announced on X that all revenue generated from advertising and subscriptions related to the war would be donated to hospitals in Israel. In addition, he expressed his intention to provide satellite network access through his company SpaceX's Starlink to internationally recognized aid organizations, with the aim of bolstering connectivity in Gaza.

This proposal, however, faced criticism from Israeli government officials. Israel's communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, voiced concerns on X, stating that "Hamas will use it for terrorist activities." In light of these concerns, Musk held discussions with Netanyahu's office and the head of Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, reassuring them that he would not rush to activate satellite communication in Gaza, and would implement it solely for humanitarian purposes under the supervision of the US and Israeli security establishments, according to N12.

Business Insider's attempts to reach out to Musk, X, Tesla, and SpaceX for comments on these developments went unanswered.

As Musk prepares for his visit to Israel, the world is keen to see how he will lend his support to the rebuilding efforts and address the pressing challenges being faced in the region.
