Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Eastern Iowa woke up to bone-chilling temperatures on Sunday, with wind chills plummeting into the single digits, teens, and 20s below zero. The region is currently under a Wind Chill Advisory until 11 a.m., urging residents to take precautions against the cold.

As the day progresses, however, there is some relief in sight, with temperatures expected to rise. The afternoon will bring slightly warmer conditions, with highs reaching the teens and 20s. The sky will be partly cloudy, providing a brief respite from the frigid air. Wind chills are predicted to climb into the single digits above zero later in the day.

Late tonight, a wintry mix of snow and precipitation will make its way from the south into the area, affecting the southern counties. This prompted authorities to issue a Winter Weather Advisory, which will remain in effect until Monday morning. The wintry mix may extend to central areas and Highway 30 by the Monday morning commute, increasing the need for caution on the roads.

By late Monday morning, the wintry mix is expected to clear out of the region, making way for mostly cloudy skies. Highs will hover in the low to mid-30s for the rest of the day. However, the respite will be short-lived as wintry weather conditions are set to return Monday night, affecting the entire area by Tuesday morning.

This upcoming system brings the possibility of ice formation on roadways and surfaces, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions. Despite the challenges it may pose, the week ahead also promises slight relief from the biting cold, with temperatures expected to range from the low to mid-30s.

Eastern Iowans are advised to stay prepared for fluctuating weather conditions and to exercise caution while commuting. Keep an eye on weather updates, and be extra attentive during the Monday morning rush hour, as icy conditions could prevail on the roads.
