Domestic Disturbance in Baltimore County Leads to Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

PARKVILLE, Md. - Baltimore County police responded to a domestic disturbance late Friday night that tragically resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting. The incident, which took place in the 2700 block of Maple Ave. in Parkville, claimed the lives of a woman and a man.

The deceased woman has been identified as 48-year-old Maxine Redfern, who was killed during the domestic disturbance. The suspect, who allegedly fired his weapon at the responding officers, has been identified as 52-year-old Arnel Redfern.

According to the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, as the first responding officer approached the residence, shots were heard from inside along with the sound of a woman screaming. Three officers then approached the scene, and as they neared the front door, the adult male suspect opened fire at them. The officers subsequently returned fire, resulting in the death of the suspect.

A search of the residence led to the discovery of the deceased adult woman, Maxine Redfern. In close proximity to the male suspect, a handgun was also found. Baltimore County Police Department's homicide detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting will be overseen by the Maryland Attorney General's Office Independent Investigation's Division. The IID generally releases the names of the deceased and the officers involved within two business days unless there is a specific threat to officer safety.

All officers present at the scene were equipped with body-worn cameras, and the incident was recorded. The IID typically releases the footage within 20 business days, allowing for necessary time to complete witness interviews, protect the identities of civilian witnesses, and provide an opportunity for family members to view the video before its public release.

As the investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of life in this tragic incident.
