In a recent interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Democratic strategist David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama, weighed in on the current polling numbers for President Biden and expressed confidence in their ability to evolve and adjust over time.

Axelrod dismissed any concerns about poor polling numbers a year away from the 2024 election, stating, "I have no concerns about polls a year out. I mean, you have to look at them and analyze them and adjust."

Drawing from his experience as a strategist for Barack Obama in 2011, Axelrod noted that they too faced difficult polls at a similar point in time. This perspective led him to believe that polls serve as a snapshot of the moment, and they should be interpreted cautiously.

However, Axelrod acknowledged that the primary concern stemming from recent polls is the issue of age. Specifically, he pointed to a CNN poll that followed a New York Times/Siena College poll, both indicating voters' concerns about President Biden's age.

"The one number in the polling that was concerning... had to do with age, and that's one thing you can't reverse," Axelrod explained. While Biden's effectiveness as a leader and communicator may be evident behind the scenes and in front of the camera, Axelrod stressed that the perception projected by the president is causing some voters to worry.

It is worth noting that David Axelrod himself has come under scrutiny recently for suggesting that President Biden should consider stepping aside ahead of the 2024 presidential election. However, in the CNN interview, Axelrod clarified that he was not calling on Biden to resign, but rather emphasizing that he "ought to think about it."

President Biden, at 80 years old, holds the distinction of being the oldest president to serve in the White House. Meanwhile, former President Trump, the leading GOP candidate for 2024, is 77 years old.

As the 2024 election draws nearer, the impact of polling numbers and concerns about age will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the political landscape. For now, Axelrod's words serve as a reminder that polls are not static and can evolve, and that age will continue to be a topic of discussion surrounding President Biden's candidacy.
