Another downtown Burlington restaurant has fallen victim to the ongoing difficulties faced by the hospitality industry. Deep City, the Lake Street restaurant attached to Foam Brewers, announced its closure on Wednesday, as shared in a Facebook post. The owners cited several factors that contributed to their decision, including staffing shortages, supply chain disruptions, and inflation.

In their Facebook post, the owners expressed the need for a significant period of reflection and contemplation. They stated, "After much contemplation, we feel that a long reset period is necessary to reflect on our journey, think about where we may want to go from here, and how we'll get there." Deep City opened its doors in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold.

While Deep City's owners expressed hope of reopening in the future, they currently remain uncertain about the timing and feasibility of such a return. However, they maintain an optimistic outlook, expressing their desire to someday make a comeback in the vibrant Queen City.

Despite the closure of Deep City, Foam Brewers, the neighboring establishment, will continue its operations as normal. This news follows the recent announcement from El Gato Cantina, which also revealed the closing of its downtown Burlington location. Instead, El Gato Cantina will focus on its Essex Junction spot and expand its presence through its food truck operations.

The closure of Deep City highlights the ongoing challenges faced by restaurants and businesses in the wake of the pandemic. Staffing shortages and supply chain disruptions have been major obstacles for the industry, exacerbating the already challenging landscape. However, Burlington's resilience and the determination of its business owners continue to foster hope for a brighter future.

As the city continues to navigate these ongoing challenges, community support for local businesses remains crucial. Through collective efforts, Burlington can overcome these hardships and once again thrive as a vibrant and diverse culinary destination.
