Police in Colorado Springs are currently investigating a targeted attack that took place on Christmas Eve at the Citadel Mall, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. As of Monday, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The police received a call around 4:34 p.m. on Christmas Eve reporting shots being fired at the Citadel Mall, located at 750 Citadel Drive East near the JCPenney store. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered one adult male who had succumbed to a gunshot wound. Two additional adult males, both with gunshot wounds, were rushed to the hospital in serious condition, where they remain in serious condition as of Monday.

In addition to those injured by gunfire, one female was also hospitalized with minor injuries, though she was not shot. Witnesses inside the mall at the time of the incident recounted the chaos that unfolded during what should have been a festive shopping experience.

"We just started hearing gunshots. Just started hearing gunshots. I heard at first and then I saw everybody running from the play gym area and they were telling everybody to get out. And then that's when they just unleashed, it was... I don't even know how many gunshots there were after that," recalled one witness.

Investigating officers have determined that the shooting followed a fight that broke out between two groups of people. While no arrests have been made yet, multiple individuals have been detained as investigators work to ascertain their involvement in the incident.

As a result of the shooting, the Citadel Mall remained closed on Christmas Day. However, the police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
