In a significant development, the controversial influencer Andrew Tate has emerged victorious in his appeal before a Romanian court, as he vigorously seeks the return of assets that have been seized by authorities. The assets include luxury cars and were confiscated as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of human trafficking and rape, which Mr Tate vehemently denies.
On Monday, the Bucharest's Court of Appeal delivered a ruling ordering a new trial specifically focusing on the seized assets. This successful appeal also involved Mr Tate's brother, Tristan, and two associated companies. The appeal was made against a previous court ruling from December 2023, which had upheld the legality of the seizure.
The higher court ruling issued on Monday has overturned the earlier decision and referred the case back for a retrial. As a result, the Tate brothers will now have the opportunity to present a fresh legal effort to reclaim their seized assets. Two companies, SC Ground Breaking Development SRL and The Cannon Run Limited, were also party to this successful appeal.
In response to the ruling, Andrew Tate took to his official Twitter account and stated that the court would have to prove that their wealth was acquired illegally in order to justify the continued seizure of their assets. He confidently declared, "They won't prove a thing because it never happened."
According to court documents released in June, the Tate brothers allegedly amassed millions of euros and acquired expensive assets and properties through their business ventures, which reportedly included adult content and online self-help courses. However, both brothers vehemently deny the charges brought against them by Romanian investigators, who claim that their adult content business operated as a criminal group and exploited women. Two Romanian female associates and seven alleged victims were also named in the indictment published in June.
The Tate brothers were initially arrested in December 2022 and spent time in prison before being placed under house arrest. While they are no longer under detention, they are still prohibited from leaving Romania until the investigation progresses.
In January 2023, during the course of the investigation, authorities confiscated expensive cars and millions of euros' worth of watches from a property associated with the Tate brothers near Bucharest.
The upcoming retrial of the asset seizure will be a crucial moment for Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan as they seek to regain control of their seized assets. Only time will tell how the legal proceedings unfold and whether the court will find the assets were acquired illegally or not.
