Confirmed Case of Measles in Liberty, Missouri Prompts Public Health Warnings

The Clay County Public Health Center has received notification of a confirmed case of measles in a resident of Liberty, Missouri. The individual recently tested positive, raising concerns for potential exposure to others in the community.

According to the health center, the infected person was present at two specific locations during the specified dates. On Thursday, January 4, they were at Terminal B, general concourse, and baggage claim at Kansas City International Airport between 6:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. The health officials have already reached out to passengers on the affected flight.

The individual also visited North Kansas City Hospital from January 5-6. On January 5, they were present in the Emergency Department waiting area, patient processing, and observation from 8:26 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Additionally, they visited the second-floor admission unit from 2:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On January 5, they were on the eighth floor pavilion medical & surgical patient unit from 6:30 p.m. to January 6 at 8:30 p.m.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in these areas during the specified dates and times to closely monitor their health for symptoms of measles until January 27. Symptoms may include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red and watery eyes. It usually takes three to five days after the onset of these symptoms for a red rash to appear.
