Cold Weather Forces School Closures Across Texas on January 16, 2024

In response to the concerning extreme cold and wind chill conditions sweeping across Texas and the Houston area, several schools have decided to close their campuses and facilities on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.

Angleton Independent School District (ISD) has announced that all schools within their district will be closed on Tuesday, January 16. This decision comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff members.

Likewise, Cleveland ISD will also be closing all their campuses and facilities due to the inclement weather conditions. Additionally, the warming centers at Cleveland Middle School and Santa Fe Middle School will extend their operating hours until 5 PM on Tuesday. All enrolled Cleveland ISD students and their families are invited to seek shelter and warmth at these designated centers.

Dayton ISD has canceled all classes and activities scheduled for Tuesday, January 16. This measure has been taken to protect students, teachers, and staff from the harsh weather conditions.

Another education institution affected by the freezing temperatures is Texas A&M University, which has decided to cancel classes for Tuesday, January 16. This closure ensures the safety of students and faculty members amidst the unfavorable weather conditions.

Furthermore, Smart Scholars Academy, located in Rosharon, TX, will be closed on Tuesday, January 16. This closure aims to prioritize the well-being of the students and staff during the extreme weather.

Corrigan-Camden ISD will have a delayed start on Tuesday, January 16, with school beginning at 10 a.m. The delayed start allows for additional preparation time to deal with the cold weather and ensure a safe school environment.

Similarly, Leggett ISD will have a delayed start on Tuesday, January 16. Classes will commence at 10 a.m., with school buses running two hours late.
