A combination of high tide, coastal flooding, and recent heavy rainfall have transformed boardwalks into ponds along the Hudson and East rivers in New York City. The city's emergency management is expecting up to 2.5 feet of flooding, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a coastal flood warning until 2pm this afternoon.

In Manhattan, several sections of Hudson River Park were closed this morning due to the high tide causing flooding. The affected area spans from pier 51 at 12th street to approximately pier 40 at Houston St. Miguel Quintero, a temporary worker for the park, emphasized the closure was necessary for public safety, as the flooded surfaces become extremely slippery. However, despite the hazards, some individuals were observed still attempting to traverse the flooded sections.

Greenpoint in Brooklyn also experienced flooding along the East River. Water was seen lapping against buildings along the shoreline, and part of the pier at Transmitter Park was submerged. The east side of Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, Long Island, and New Jersey have also been affected by coastal flooding.

Despite the treacherous conditions, some residents braved the elements. Alyssa Perrugini, a regular jogger on the Hudson River path, noted that the waves were choppy and the water was flooding the entire walkway. The severity of the flooding raises concerns about the safety of those venturing out into unknown depths of water.

At present, the specific impacts on the affected areas are being assessed. Hudson River Park authorities were not immediately available for comment regarding the extent of the damage caused by the flooding.

The National Weather Service advises people to avoid traveling through water of unknown depths to ensure their safety. As the coastal flood warning remains in effect until 2pm, individuals are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about any further developments or road closures that may occur as a result of the ongoing flooding.
