Ryan Fournier, the co-founder of the political organization Students for Trump, was arrested last week in North Carolina after allegedly assaulting a woman with a gun, according to court records.
Fournier has been charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon, as stated in the online court records from Johnston County. On November 21, he was released on a $2,500 bond after his arrest.
The charging documents accuse Fournier of grabbing the woman's arm and striking her in the forehead using a firearm. The woman's identity has been redacted from the records.
Court documents show that Fournier waived his right to assigned counsel in this case, indicating he will likely handle his own defense. CNN has attempted to contact Fournier for comment, but no response has been received so far.
A hearing has been scheduled for Fournier on December 18 at the Johnston County Courthouse.
In addition to co-founding Students for Trump in 2015 during his freshman year at Campbell University, Fournier also serves as the chairman of the organization, according to his website. Furthermore, he leads Radical Alert, an organization dedicated to monitoring and exposing what it calls "radicals" who have allegedly taken over American college campuses.
The arrest and charges against Fournier have raised concerns and brought unwanted attention to the political organization Students for Trump. With the upcoming hearing in December, the case will likely garner more attention as it unfolds.
