In a shocking series of attacks that has left residents on edge, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is currently conducting an intense citywide manhunt for a suspect who has stabbed at least five people at random in Queens. The alarming spree, which began on January 8th, has prompted heightened security measures and increased police presence throughout the city.
According to authorities, three of the attacks occurred on Wednesday morning in Springfield Gardens, while additional stabbings took place on Tuesday and January 8th. Investigators are also looking into a similar incident on a subway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and suspect that it may be connected to the Queens attacks.
NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell expressed concern about the unpredictability and randomness of the attacks, stating that there appears to be no connection between the victims, and the stabbings seem to be unprovoked. Chief Chell further described the suspect as approximately 5'9" tall, wearing a gray jacket, black pants, black shoes, and often seen donning a face mask. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspect.
The first incident in the stabbing spree occurred on January 8th, when a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the lower back at the intersection of 137th Avenue and 157th Street. In a chilling display of callousness, the suspect reportedly laughed in the victim's face after the attack, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
On Tuesday, a 34-year-old woman was stabbed at the intersection of 158th Street and 134th Avenue. The following morning, two back-to-back stabbings took place near Guy Brewer Boulevard at 134th Avenue, targeting a 41-year-old man and a 74-year-old man. The latter was assisted by Bruce An, the owner of a nearby dry cleaning shop, who witnessed the victim's injuries and promptly called 911. An described the distressing scene, recounting the discovery of blood-soaked clothes on the victim.
The fifth and most recent incident occurred at Parsons Boulevard and Archer Avenue, resulting from an altercation that transpired on a bus over a seat. The suspect and the victim disembarked from the bus, and the suspect proceeded to stab the victim.
In light of the suspect's potential mobility across the city, the NYPD has deployed additional officers to various transit hubs, including Columbus Circle, and increased security measures on trains, platforms, and turnstiles. They are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline or submit tips through their website or Twitter account.
The NYPD is determined to bring an end to this violent spree and ensure the safety of all New York City residents. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are committed to apprehending the suspect responsible for these terrifying acts.
