In a tense encounter over the South China Sea, a Chinese Shenyang J-11 fighter jet dangerously approached a US B-52 bomber, coming within just 10 feet of a collision, according to reports by the New York Post. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has sparked anger among military officials and raised concerns about regional peace and stability.

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command revealed that the Chinese fighter jet harassed the American B-52 by flying at an uncontrolled excessive speed, maneuvering below, in front, and within 10 feet of the bomber. This irresponsible behavior put both aircraft at high risk of a collision. U.S. military officials expressed their concerns, citing China's previous history of similar incidents that jeopardize the safety of military operations in the region.

The airspace over the South China Sea holds strategic value, and China has been assertively asserting control over the area while the United States and its allies carry out exercises. This contentious episode further heightened tensions, with the Chinese Communist Party responding in frustration and accusing the U.S. of provocation through its excessive military presence.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning criticized the U.S., stating, "The U.S. military planes traveled thousands of miles to China's doorstep to flex muscle. That is the source of maritime and air security risks and is not conducive to regional peace and stability."

Despite the exchange of heated remarks, both the U.S. and China refused to back down over the incident. In separate statements, they announced their intentions to continue operations within the region as usual. The U.S. emphasized its commitment to conducting operations safely and responsibly, while China reaffirmed its determination to maintain national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing power struggle between the two nations in the South China Sea. As tensions continue to rise, concerns regarding the potential escalation of military encounters remain a pressing issue. The international community will closely monitor developments and hope for a peaceful resolution that maintains stability in the region.
