In an effort to contain a multi-state salmonella outbreak, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has expanded its investigation and warned against consuming certain brands of charcuterie meat sold at Costco and Sam's Club.

According to an updated post by the CDC on Thursday, individuals are urged to discard all packs of Fratelli Beretta's Antipasto Gran Beretta charcuterie meat purchased at Costco and Busseto's Charcuterie Sampler bought at Walmart's Sam's Club.

This latest warning follows the CDC's initial caution on January 5, which advised against consuming the Busseto brand Charcuterie Sampler from a recalled lot.

Taking swift action, Costco issued a letter on Friday to its members who had purchased Fratelli Beretta meat, announcing a voluntary recall of the affected charcuterie products due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall pertains to all items with a best-by date prior to June 13, as stated in the letter addressed to Costco members.

Providing an update on the outbreak, the CDC confirmed on Thursday that an additional 23 cases of salmonella have been reported in eight more states across the United States since their previous warning. This brings the total case count to 47, spanning across 22 states. Notably, the highest number of infections has been reported in Ohio.

Regrettably, the multi-state outbreak has resulted in 10 hospitalizations thus far, as reported by the CDC.

The CDC is intensifying its investigation into the outbreak and is working diligently alongside health officials in affected states to identify the specific source of contamination and prevent further spread of the infection.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled charcuterie products are advised to dispose of them immediately or return them to the respective retailers for a full refund. Additionally, anyone experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps after consuming the affected products is urged to seek medical attention promptly.

It is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and heed the CDC's warnings to ensure their health and safety. Regularly checking for updates and following proper food handling practices are crucial steps to mitigate the risk of contracting salmonella and other foodborne illnesses.

As investigations continue, the CDC will provide further updates and guidance to the public as necessary, aiming to protect consumers and prevent further illnesses associated with this outbreak.
