OMAHA, Neb. - The peaceful community of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, was left in shock on Sunday when The Rev. Stephen Gutgsell, a beloved Catholic priest, tragically lost his life during an invasion at the rectory of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of Omaha confirmed the devastating news in a statement, revealing that Gutgsell was assaulted during the incident.

According to church officials, Gutgsell was swiftly transported to an Omaha hospital following the attack, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The small town of Fort Calhoun, home to approximately 1,000 residents, is located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Omaha.
