In an unsettling turn of events, the bustling headquarters of Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in Century City, Los Angeles, was hastily evacuated on Thursday following a threatening phone call. Police authorities swiftly responded to the incident, and all personnel, including prominent executives such as Bryan Lourd, Kevin Huvane, and Richard Lovett, swiftly exited the building located at 2000 Avenue of the Stars.
An employee, speaking to Deadline on conditions of anonymity, described the unfolding situation as a grim reminder of the "crazy f*cked-up world" we live in, which had suddenly invaded the agency's daily operations.
While a small group of senior staffers may be allowed to return to the premises once clearance is granted by security and the police, for most agency employees, the day came to an abrupt halt. A precautionary internal email from CAA Global Safety & Security confirmed that the Los Angeles CAA offices had indeed received a serious security threat, stating that the safety of their employees remained the agency's top priority. As a result, the decision was made to close the offices until further notice.
Staff members were advised to head home and, if possible, use the stairs due to potential congestion with the elevators. Details surrounding the nature and credibility of the security threat are currently under investigation.
This is not the first time the CAA headquarters has faced such a situation. In 2015, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation after a suspicious package was discovered at a nearby bank. Thankfully, no explosive device was found, though the package did contain an unknown liquid, leading to a hazardous materials incident.
In a separate incident back in 2020, the CAA building had to be evacuated due to a gas leak, while other major talent agencies, such as UTA and WME, have also experienced similar security scares in recent years.
As the investigation proceeds, CAA employees and industry insiders hope for a swift resolution to the security threat, ensuring the safe reopening of the highly regarded agency's headquarters in Century City.
